SPECIAL EDUCATION – LEARNING KNOWS NO BOUNDS
Our Special Education programme is designed with the child in mind to strengthen his/
her gifts and talents while developing strategies to help him / her self-manage and
function effectively in society. We use the BrainRx Programme along with swimming
and occupational therapy. Students are also integrated into the regular classroom and
are engaged in any co-curricular activity they enjoy. The success of our programme is
the result of the excellent relationship between home and school.

THE BRAINRx PROGRAMME FROM LEARNING Rx
At LearningRx, you’ll do fun, challenging exercises for your brain with the help of
your own personal trainer. The face-to-face nature of the training relationship allows
LearningRx brain trainers to:
focus on results by customizing each training session and encouraging students to work
past their comfort levels.
focus on attitude by challenging children to recognize and pursue their potential,
learning to see failure not as something to be avoided at all costs, but as a temporary
stepping-stone to greater success.
focus on confidence by encouraging struggling children to fully engage, embrace
challenges, recognize improvements, and celebrate gains.

ABOUT BRAINRx BRAIN TRAINING
The BRAINRXx BRAIN TRAINING
• programmes consist of intense mental exercises that sharpen the core skills used to think, learn, read, reason, and pay attention.
• is not tutoring - it doesn’t teach information. Instead, it changes how the brain grasps and uses incoming information.
• uses a unique blend of one-on-one brain training (with a personal coach) and digital brain training (done on a computer).
• is fun to do. The game-like exercises are enjoyable, and the fast-pace at which improvements are experienced makes the experience rewarding, as well.
• sharpens the brain skills we use in everyday life. In other words, when brain skills are sharper, life is easier.

We hope that by achieving these Golden Standards, children will become self-motivated, life-
long learners, who understand how to learn, and have a range of strategies to support their

learning. We believe that every member of our community is a learner, and that adults can

BUILDING LEARNING POWER
We try to develop the four R’s of children’s learning:
• Resilience – being able to lock on to learning (perseverance, managing distractions, noticing
and absorption).
• Resourcefulness – being able to learn in different ways (questioning, making links, reasoning
and imagining).
• Reflectiveness – being able to become more strategic about learning (planning, distilling
and revising).
• Reciprocity – being able to learn alone and with others (imitation, interdependence, empathy
and listening, collaboration).
These dispositions help children to increase their learning capacity.

OUR VIBRANT CURRICULUM
We believe that learning should be fun!
We achieve high standards of achievement and attainment through a clear focus on teaching skills;
in literacy, numeracy, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and across all other subject
areas. We fulfil all National Curriculum requirements that lead to the National Grade Six Assessment.
However, we enhance our programme with Robotics, Chess, Spanish, Music, Art, Library and Physical
Education. In Grade 6 we offer the kidsMBA.

BEHAVIOUR
Our actions speak to who we are as people and we strive to develop a moral compass in our pupils
and school community to show the influence of humanity in action. These are our ‘Golden Rules’ of
behavior for all members of our community. We expect all children to keep the ‘Golden Rules’:
Do be gentle – don’t hurt anyone.
Do be kind – don’t hurt others’ feelings.
Do be honest – don’t cover up the truth.
Do work hard – don’t waste time.
Do play co-operatively – don’t spoil other people’s games.
Do look after property – don’t waste or damage things.
Do listen to people – don’t interrupt.
These rules are simple enough for all the children to understand. There will be frequent reminders
of the rules in school assemblies, during class discussions and on posters throughout the school. By
maintaining the rules, all members of the school community will feel happy, valued and secure.

EXTRA CURRICULAR CLUBS
We have a rich variety of activities for children in the afternoons and on Saturdays. All children must
be engaged in at least one club. Our clubs are:

COUNSELLOR
The Social and Emotional development of our learners is another key component of development
throughout our school. Our SEL programme gives learners the skills to work towards their unique
goals, manage their emotions, nurture positive relationships and exhibit empathy. Our counsellor
helps learners to create the foundation where they learn about themselves in a safe and nurturing
environment and more importantly, she gives the confidential support in their times of crisis
whether big or small.

SERVICE – We live our motto through Service. We teach our learners to be of service to those in
need and our community as each act of service has a positive impact in persons’ lives. As a school
we have one major community project per year and smaller class projects per term.
